life roundup

Oh my god so much has happened. SO much. Ok, I lied, not a lot has happened, but a lot of time has passed. I had a brief affair with tumblr since the last time I updated on WordPress here, which amounted to maybe 10 extra posts since last October. I’m still working at Best Buy and that is eating a lot of my free time. I’ve listened to so much more music, played a fair amount of more games, and thanks to Netflix, watched a TON of TV shows and movies. Haven’t really read any books though. You know me 🙂

So, just as a brief list of some of the things that I have really enjoyed, and I may be forgetting some stuff, but I’ll break it down by category:

Movies
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Heat, Dune, Scanners, The Machinist, Moon, uh… many many more. Those are just the recent ones that I remember liking. Seriously though, Netflix is evil. I’ve seen waaaay to many movies thanks to it.

TV Shows
Well, Futurama came back and I’m loving it. The only new show that I’ve really followed was Community. I watched FlashForward too, but that got cancelled at the end of the first season. Mad Men is on season 4 now, loving it still as well.

Music
Black Sabbath, Ben Folds, Jefferson Airplane, B-52s, Tears for Fears, The Strokes, and Modest Mouse. These are all bands that that I have enjoyed before, but actually went out and bought CDs for over the past year, or at least the ones I remember. The band that really takes the cake, though, is CAKE. I got one of their CDs for Christmas, a CD that I wanted because of simply one song that I know from them (Going the Distance) that I kind of liked and when my friend asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I said to get me the CAKE CD that had that song on it, because I probably never would have bought it myself. But OH MAN did that turn out to be an awesome CD. I still listen to it regularly. I have yet to buy any of their other CDs but to be honest I don’t know if I want to. What if its a fluke that this CD is so great and I will get disappointed by their other work? That’s how good this CD is and that’s how much I love it. The name is Fashion Nugget for anyone who might be interested in it (not like anyone else reads this anyway).

Games
So as I mentioned on one of my imported Tumblr posts, I started playing Warcraft again. That’s been my main source of gaming. However I have played a few other games, Left 4 Dead 2 is fun. Alien Swarm is free and fun. Picked up a few DS games too, like SMT: Devil Survivor which was real good but the end boss is so hard I can’t beat it… Pokemon HeartGold was of course a game I was gonna get. A really nice remake, I was satisfied. I also bought, but haven’t had a chance to touch yet, Disgaea DS. It’s supposed to be a good game. Lastly, or at least the last thing I remember, is Red Dead Redemption for 360. I bought it the day it came out but haven’t beaten it yet. That’s how much WoW takes up of my game playing time. Torchlight is another gem I picked up a while ago, and I’m just now getting ready to finish it. The Witcher is another game that I picked up but haven’t played yet, because it’s supposed to be good. Oh, I did wind up getting New Super Mario Bros. It was fun while it lasted, but I will probably never replay it, or if I do, it will be years from now. After I finish up Torchlight, I will probably go ahead and wrap up Red Dead Redemption as I am somewhere near the halfway point. After that I will either move onto The Wticher or Disgaea, but I have two upcoming games on my radar: Civilization V and Fallout: New Vegas!

Anyway, there’s probably a TON of stuff I left out, but that’s all I remember. If I remember anything later on, well I’m just too apathetic to comment on it, unless it happens to be while I’m making another post. You non-existent readers are lucky enough as it is that I felt motivated enough to import some posts from another blog, and to go into so much detail about all the new media and what not I’ve been up to. I also made a new category called computer, as I felt there were some things that dealt with the computer and the internet that didn’t really fall into any of the other categories. I think theres only like 3 posts for it right now though.

Lastly, as I mentioned a year or so ago before I went on another quitting spree, I mentioned I want to do less of these media roundup posts, and make things more worthwhile. Well, we’ll see how that goes. There are two posts you will probably see coming in the next couple of days, before I get bored with this blog again. One will be about a new hobby of mine, and the other one will be about a new hobby of mine. The end.

Media Galore

So where to start. Nothing new on the book front that I don’t think I already reported. In case I didn’t, Starfish and The Road are excellent books. I’ve been meaning to start Lucifer’s Hammer for a long time now but haven’t… it just looks so daunting. I bought a collection of H.G. Wells shorts, as well as H.G. Wells Time Machine and War of the Worlds. Maybe I will dig into those first.

Music? I haven’t really been buying any new CDs. I’ve gotten into Bob Dylan. My friend gave me two Bob Dylan CDs because he doesn’t really care for him.

Games: not much here either. I bought the Sims 3 when it came out and it consumed me for about a month but I haven’t touched it recently. I’m itching to start playing it again though. Marvel vs Capcom 2 on Xbox Live has been a blast as well. And I also burned some games ILLEGALLY for my Dreamcast (did I mention I bought a Dreamcast from the Flea Market earlier this year?). Mostly all the Capcom fighters.

Movies: I saw quite a few movies starting with Wolverine. I don’t think I ever commented on any of them. I saw quite a few so I will just run through them as a list with some short comments.

Wolverine – Started out looking good, but just became more and more disappointing as it went on. Not a complete waste of time. though. If you want to veg out and enjoy some action, check this one out.

Angels and Demons – Better than the Da Vinci code adaptation. You would only appreciate this if you read the book though. It’s pretty “meh” all around. Watch it if you have the time or liked the book.

Star Trek – I’ve never been a Trekkie, but I enjoyed this movie on the whole. I’ve heard bad things from some people, but mostly from Star Trek fans.

Year One – It was pretty funny, but not LAUGH OUT LOUD. Worth watching though.

District 9 – This movie is not epically mind blowing on all levels, but it is DEFINITELY the best movie to come out this summer (out of the one’s I saw anyway). I will say it’s amazing, but it is not the best movie of all time. Definitely worth watching.

Inglourious Basterds – Definitely the second best movie to come out this summer. The beginning and the ending are fantastic. The rest of the movie is good, but some parts in the middle drag on. If you like Tarantino, you will certainly not be disappointed with this, however. Also, the trailers lead you to believe it’s more action oriented than it really is.

Well, that’s it for the movies, and this post I guess. There were some movies that piqued my interest but I decided to wait until video, such as Public Enemies and The Taking Of Pelham 123, and Terminator: Salvation. Then there were other movies that when I first heard about them, I wanted to see, but as I heard and saw more stuff about them, I decided I do not want to see at all, and will probably see on video one day, but they will be on someone else’s dime. like G. I. Joe and Transformers 2.

Welp, I bid you good day (if anyone even reads this, which I doubt). As I said, I hope to use this blog more now since my life (hopefully) will be starting very soon.

First of all, I bought the Heroes season 1 DVD. It’s a great show, the new season starts later this month on NBC. Check it out.

Anyways, over 4 years ago I started this “blogging” nonsense, before blogging was even a mainstream word. I never really got into serious blogging, or blogging that actually mattered. I did more of an on-line journal kind of deal, keeping up with movies, music, tv, video games, web design, and any other thing that I thought was worth mentioning to no one (because nobody reads these). I slowly started losing interest in web design. It all started with my own news posting database that I wrote on my own in the PHP language. My layouts kept getting more and more simplistic, until I decided to just switch to a WordPress blog, and then finally just to wordpress.com, which happened earlier this year. Going back through August 2003 and up to now you won’t really find anything worth reading. This has really just been an on-line journal about the trivial. I had intended it my goal a long time ago to make some kind of serious blog, and I did actually start on one with one post, but I quickly lost interest. I really have no interest for any kind of blogging or web design now. I haven’t been posting often this year. You’ll notice that I don’t have at least one entry per month this year, while all the months of previous years are represented. I just really don’t have the interest anymore. As far as the monikers I’ve posted under in the past four years: Pen, Keyboard Stomp, Soporific, Hobbs, and Hobblin Harry, they all kind of came together into this little WordPress blog. In older days when you might have visited this blog at http://www.soporific.org or http://www.hobblinharry.com, you would of noticed some more meat in my sites, such as sound clips, flash movies, and videos, but those are all things of the past, especially when since I lost it all when my hard drive crashed back in June.

So what does all of that mean for the future? I’ll keep this blog up, continuing to run it as it has always been, posting on trivial information that nobody but me should care about. The posts will probably become more and more scarce. I probably won’t post on every new movie or CD I buy. I haven’t even done that over the past 4 years, but I tried. What I guess I’m saying now is that I’ll “try to try.” I’m mostly keeping this blog around because it’s linked to my facebook, so whenever I post here, my notes on my facebook stream the posts in. I might try to do a serious blog/web site again in the future, but for now, no.

So all in all, stay tuned for more of nothing. Word count? This rounds it out to 500 words. Thank you. Bye.

It came and went.

My WoW addiction came and went. I’m done playing again. I got my character up to 70, the new level cap. I played all the dungeons but now I just don’t feel like playing anymore. Maybe I’ll play again when the expansion comes out. Who knows. Maybe I’ll update this blog more as a consequence.

As for other news, school started. I’m a senior in college now. When this site began, over 4 years ago, I was a senior in high school. I’m not going to elaborate much further because I’m going to make a special anniversary post. Aside from that, I got the new White Stripes cd. It’s pretty decent. I still think White Blood Cells is my favorite album though. As for movies, I saw Transformers, which was sehr gut, and just last week I saw Superbad, which was so funny it had me laughing so hard I cried.

Thats all for now. Coming soon: 4 year post.

Four Months.

So I haven’t added a blog in four months. Why not? Tons of reasons. School. Lost interest. Okay, so theres two. March and April were actually kind of chilled months. I just didn’t have much going on. May and most of this month was jam packed with school. I’m done for the summer. So what are the small things I’ve been up with?

Music:
Well, I’ve been listening to a lot of older music. Bought a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers greatest hits CD. Yeah. Not much. I’ve really had no money.

Movies:
I’ve seen a few. 300, that was awesome. Spider-Man 3 was okay, I still like the first one the best. Knocked Up? I think that is the only other movie I have seen in the theaters recently. It was hil-arious. Movies that are already out… I saw Pirates 2 finally. It was decent. I’m gonna wait for Pirates 3 to hit video before I see that one. Saw Rent. I don’t like musicals too much, the movie was good though, I guess.

This post is kind of lackluster, I know. But as I’ve said, I am losing interest.

P.S.
My last post was about quitting WoW. Well, I started playing WoW again 😐

I thought Wesley Snipes was more popular?

From this article:

“Movie actor Wesley Snipes, star of “White Men Can’t Jump” and the “Blade” films, was indicted Tuesday on eight counts of tax fraud accusing him of trying to cheat the government of $12 million in false refund claims.”

star of “White Men Can’t Jump” and the “Blade” films

Has he really done not much else? I mean really, White Men Can’t Jump? The Blade trilogy? Blade 2 and Blade 3 were forgettable, and the first Blade wasn’t the best comic book movie adaptation. White Men Can’t Jump was only moderately funny. Why would they list those movies as examples of what he has been in? My guess is that they are trying to cast him in a bad light to build more sympathy for the article, to go along with his non taxpaying. I don’t know. I could of sworn he has done bigger movies than those, though.
