life roundup

Oh my god so much has happened. SO much. Ok, I lied, not a lot has happened, but a lot of time has passed. I had a brief affair with tumblr since the last time I updated on WordPress here, which amounted to maybe 10 extra posts since last October. I’m still working at Best Buy and that is eating a lot of my free time. I’ve listened to so much more music, played a fair amount of more games, and thanks to Netflix, watched a TON of TV shows and movies. Haven’t really read any books though. You know me šŸ™‚

So, just as a brief list of some of the things that I have really enjoyed, and I may be forgetting some stuff, but I’ll break it down by category:

Movies
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Heat, Dune, Scanners, The Machinist, Moon, uh… many many more. Those are just the recent ones that I remember liking. Seriously though, Netflix is evil. I’ve seen waaaay to many movies thanks to it.

TV Shows
Well, Futurama came back and I’m loving it. The only new show that I’ve really followed was Community. I watched FlashForward too, but that got cancelled at the end of the first season. Mad Men is on season 4 now, loving it still as well.

Music
Black Sabbath, Ben Folds, Jefferson Airplane, B-52s, Tears for Fears, The Strokes, and Modest Mouse. These are all bands that that I have enjoyed before, but actually went out and bought CDs for over the past year, or at least the ones I remember. The band that really takes the cake, though, is CAKE. I got one of their CDs for Christmas, a CD that I wanted because of simply one song that I know from them (Going the Distance) that I kind of liked and when my friend asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I said to get me the CAKE CD that had that song on it, because I probably never would have bought it myself. But OH MAN did that turn out to be an awesome CD. I still listen to it regularly. I have yet to buy any of their other CDs but to be honest I don’t know if I want to. What if its a fluke that this CD is so great and I will get disappointed by their other work? That’s how good this CD is and that’s how much I love it. The name is Fashion Nugget for anyone who might be interested in it (not like anyone else reads this anyway).

Games
So as I mentioned on one of my imported Tumblr posts, I started playing Warcraft again. That’s been my main source of gaming. However I have played a few other games, Left 4 Dead 2 is fun. Alien Swarm is free and fun. Picked up a few DS games too, like SMT: Devil Survivor which was real good but the end boss is so hard I can’t beat it… Pokemon HeartGold was of course a game I was gonna get. A really nice remake, I was satisfied. I also bought, but haven’t had a chance to touch yet, Disgaea DS. It’s supposed to be a good game. Lastly, or at least the last thing I remember, is Red Dead Redemption for 360. I bought it the day it came out but haven’t beaten it yet. That’s how much WoW takes up of my game playing time. Torchlight is another gem I picked up a while ago, and I’m just now getting ready to finish it. The Witcher is another game that I picked up but haven’t played yet, because it’s supposed to be good. Oh, I did wind up getting New Super Mario Bros. It was fun while it lasted, but I will probably never replay it, or if I do, it will be years from now. After I finish up Torchlight, I will probably go ahead and wrap up Red Dead Redemption as I am somewhere near the halfway point. After that I will either move onto The Wticher or Disgaea, but I have two upcoming games on my radar: Civilization V and Fallout: New Vegas!

Anyway, there’s probably a TON of stuff I left out, but that’s all I remember. If I remember anything later on, well I’m just too apathetic to comment on it, unless it happens to be while I’m making another post. You non-existent readers are lucky enough as it is that I felt motivated enough to import some posts from another blog, and to go into so much detail about all the new media and what not I’ve been up to. I also made a new category called computer, as I felt there were some things that dealt with the computer and the internet that didn’t really fall into any of the other categories. I think theres only like 3 posts for it right now though.

Lastly, as I mentioned a year or so ago before I went on another quitting spree, I mentioned I want to do less of these media roundup posts, and make things more worthwhile. Well, we’ll see how that goes. There are two posts you will probably see coming in the next couple of days, before I get bored with this blog again. One will be about a new hobby of mine, and the other one will be about a new hobby of mine. The end.

fuggit

I started playing World of Warcraft again, and when I play this game, that’s all I do. Of course I have to go to work or I’ll get fired, so all I do now is work and play WoW. That means I haven’t been updating this lately at all which saddens me šŸ˜¦

I NEED TO FIND THE PERFECT BALANCE

Cake orĀ Bread?

Who decides if something is called a cake or a bread? You have banana and pumpkin bread, yet it’s carrot cake. MarieĀ AntoinetteĀ didn’t see a real difference and neither do I. That doesn’t mean you can term things all willy nilly though. They are all cakes or they are all breads and that’s that.

Life, the Universe, and Everything

Do you ever ponder the universe, and what it is? Is it infinite? Is it ever expanding? Even if it IS ever expanding, what is it expanding into? Empty space? How much of that empty space is there and where did it come from? Some might say God, but where did God come from? I get the feeling that the logical conclusion to life…everything…is that it shouldn’t even exist.

I was watching History or Discovery the other night and there was a special about the universe, and that how in billions of years from now, we won’t be able to see any other galaxies, even with the most powerful telescopes, because of how far apart they will have expanded away from our galaxy. If there is sentient life on Earth, or any other planet in our Galaxy for that matter, that far from now, they will have every reason to believe that the edge of our galaxy is the edge of the known universe and that there is nothing else out there. For all they will know is that our galaxy is a self contained bubble in a void of blackness. Of course they will have questions like “how did it all begin?” but for all they will know, “all” is only the Milky Way.

They will have it easier, they will have less to explain. Of course, they will be wrong anyway becauseĀ unbeknownstĀ to them, there IS a whole universe out there, other galaxies beyond the dark reaches of the nether. The point is, I am alive right now, and how am I to explain what the hell is going on with this infinitely black void we call the universe, spotted with galaxies. Sure, I could say “God” did it, but then where did God come from? Where did the space or plane or dimension he occupies come from?

I don’t think about this stuff too often, but when it does, I get really depressed, because like I said, the only logical conclusion I can draw is that life shouldn’t even exist. But it does. What the fuck.

Life Might Finally Start

Well, well, well. An update that isn’t just a short paragraph on something that I don’t even care about. You may be looking at a new employee of Best Buy. I had to take a drug test (which I should have passed) and I’ll I’m waiting on now is the call to start orientation/the job. It’s starting out as part-time but there’s definitely room to become full-time. Assuming something doesn’t go horribly wrong and I don’t get the job after all, this will be the beginning of the rest of my life. I don’t want to get my hopes up quite yet though, in case something DOES go horribly wrong. I am excited, but I don’t want to consider the possibilities until it is official. And since I feel like I will actually have a life now, I think I will actually take advantage of this blog more.

Hopefully!

Games, Books

I’ve been getting into a lot of beta tests for games lately, not sure what that’s about. Quake Live was probably the best one, and that’s in open beta now, so anyone can play it. I’m in Battlefield Heroes as well, but I think everyone and their brother has a key for that now, even though it’s still closed beta. It’s not that good. And then I was just accepted into Blood Bowl. That game is okay, but not my cup of tea. I don’t know, none of this means anything. I’m just trying to stay into the groove of keeping up with this.

Also, I’m working on a short story that might turn into a longer story. I haven’t worked on it for a week though, which makes me sad. I need to get back to it.

I’m also reading. I’ve read Starfish by Peter Watts (great book), The Road by Cormac McCarthy (awesome book, turning into a movie from what I hear), and I’m currently reading Angels & Demons, mostly because I read Da Vinci Code. This book is okay but I kind of want to stop reading it though. However, it’s not in my character traits to start doing something and then stop in the middle.

Well, that’s that.
